Context of Psalms 69:30
28Erase their names from the Book of Life; don’t let them be counted among the righteous. 29I am suffering and in pain. Rescue me, O God, by your saving power. Then I will praise God’s name with singing, and I will honor him with thanksgiving. 31For this will please the Lord more than sacrificing cattle, more than presenting a bull with its horns and hooves. 32The humble will see their God at work and be glad. Let all who seek God’s help be encouraged.

It was in such circumstances that a large part of the psalms were composed; and since others besides the psalmist are often in such circumstances, the Book of Psalms becomes permanently useful in the church. It is not always necessary now to “compose” a song or…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 30-36Verses 30-36 The psalmist concludes the psalm with holy joy and praise, which he began with complaints of his grief. It is a great comfort to us, that humble and thankful praises are more pleasing to God than the most costly, pompous sacrifices. The humble shall look to him, and be glad; those that seek him through Christ shall live and be comforted. God will do great things for the gospel church, in which let all who wish well to it rejoice. A seed shall…Read the comment
