Context of Psalms 69:30
28Remove their names from the book of living people. Do not write their names on the list of righteous people. 29But I have pain in my body and trouble in my mind. God, rescue me and keep me safe! I will sing to praise God's name! I will thank him because he is great! 31That will please the Lord more than if I offer him an ox, or a great bull with horns. 32When humble people see it, they will be very happy. People who want to serve God will become strong in their lives.

It was in such circumstances that a large part of the psalms were composed; and since others besides the psalmist are often in such circumstances, the Book of Psalms becomes permanently useful in the church. It is not always necessary now to “compose” a song or…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 30-36Verses 30-36 The psalmist concludes the psalm with holy joy and praise, which he began with complaints of his grief. It is a great comfort to us, that humble and thankful praises are more pleasing to God than the most costly, pompous sacrifices. The humble shall look to him, and be glad; those that seek him through Christ shall live and be comforted. God will do great things for the gospel church, in which let all who wish well to it rejoice. A seed shall…Read the comment
