Context of Job 24:14
12The groans of the dying rise from the city, and the wounded cry for help, yet God ignores their moaning. 13“Wicked people rebel against the light. They refuse to acknowledge its ways or stay in its paths. The murderer rises in the early dawn to kill the poor and needy; at night he is a thief. 15The adulterer waits for the twilight, saying, ‘No one will see me then.’ He hides his face so no one will know him. 16Thieves break into houses at night and sleep in the daytime. They are not acquainted with the light.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 14The murderer rising with the light - Perhaps the words should be read as Mr. Good has done: - With the daylight ariseth the murderer; Poor and needy, he sheddeth blood. This description is suitable to a highwayman; one who robs in daylight, and who has been impelled by poverty and distress to use this most unlawful and perilous mode to get bread; and for fear of being discovered or taken, commits murder, and thus adds crime to crime. In the night is as a…Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 13-17Verses 13-17 See what care and pains wicked men take to compass their wicked designs; let it shame our negligence and slothfulness in doing good. See what pains those take, who make provision for the flesh to fulfil the lusts of it: pains to compass, and then to hide that which will end in death and hell at last. Less pains would mortify and crucify the flesh, and be life and heaven at last. Shame came in with sin, and everlasting shame is at the end of…Read the comment
