Context of Ezekiel 7:5
3No hope remains, for I will unleash my anger against you. I will call you to account for all your detestable sins. 4I will turn my eyes away and show no pity. I will repay you for all your detestable sins. Then you will know that I am the Lord. “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Disaster after disaster is coming your way! 6The end has come. It has finally arrived. Your final doom is waiting! 7O people of Israel, the day of your destruction is dawning. The time has come; the day of trouble is near. Shouts of anguish will be heard on the mountains, not shouts of joy.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 5An evil, an only evil - The great, the sovereign, the last exterminating evil, is come: the sword, the pestilence, the famine, and the captivity. Many MSS. read אחר achar, after. So evil cometh after evil; one instantly succeeds another.Read the comment

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 5-9A second message repeats that the coming judgment would be personal. The people would not only know that God is the Lord, as in Ezekiel 7:4. They would feel his judgment in their own lives. The Lord, who once revealed himself to his people as “the LORD who heals you” (Exodus 15:26), had now become “the LORD, who strikes the blow.” The day of the Lord had arrived. This is a time when God steps in to judge and act in power (Joel 1:15; Amos 5:18–20).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 55. An evil, an only evil--a peculiar calamity such as was never before; unparalleled. The abruptness of the style and the repetitions express the agitation of the prophet's mind in foreseeing these calamities.Read the comment
