Context of 1 Chronicles 10:6
4Saul groaned to his armor bearer, “Take your sword and kill me before these pagan Philistines come to taunt and torture me.” But his armor bearer was afraid and would not do it. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it. 5When his armor bearer realized that Saul was dead, he fell on his own sword and died. So Saul and his three sons died there together, bringing his dynasty to an end. 7When all the Israelites in the Jezreel Valley saw that their army had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their towns and fled. So the Philistines moved in and occupied their towns. 8The next day, when the Philistines went out to strip the dead, they found the bodies of Saul and his sons on Mount Gilboa.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 6So Saul died - and all his house - Every branch of his family that had followed him to the war was cut off; his three sons are mentioned as being the chief. No doubt all his officers were slain.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 6All his house died together - Not the whole of his family, nor even “all his sons” (see 2 Samuel 2:8-15; 2 Samuel 3:6-15; 2 Samuel 4:1-12). The phrase is perhaps an abbreviation of the expression in the parallel passage of Samuel 1 Samuel 31:6.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 6-12Saul died together with his three sons and all his house: The Chronicler does not mention Saul’s armor bearer or the rest of his troops (see 1 Samuel 31:6). This emphasizes God's role in removing Saul and replacing him with David (1 Chronicles 10:14).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 66. Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house--his sons and courtiers who were there engaged in the battle. But it appears that Ish-bosheth and Mephibosheth were kept at Gibeah on account of their youth. 1Ch 10:8-14. The Philistines Triumph over Him.Read the comment
