Context of 1 Chronicles 10:6
4Then Saul said to his armor bearer, “Draw your sword and run me through with it, otherwise these uncircumcised [Philistines] will come and abuse and humiliate me.” But his armor bearer would not, for he was terrified. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it. 5When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword and died. So Saul died with his three sons and all those of his house died together. 7When all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that the army had fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities and fled; and the Philistines came and lived in them. 8It came about the next day, when the Philistines came to strip (plunder) the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.

Commentaries on 1 Chronicles 10:6
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 6So Saul died - and all his house - Every branch of his family that had followed him to the war was cut off; his three sons are mentioned as being the chief. No doubt all his officers were slain.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 6All his house died together - Not the whole of his family, nor even “all his sons” (see 2 Samuel 2:8-15; 2 Samuel 3:6-15; 2 Samuel 4:1-12). The phrase is perhaps an abbreviation of the expression in the parallel passage of Samuel 1 Samuel 31:6.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 6-12Saul died together with his three sons and all his house: The Chronicler does not mention Saul’s armor bearer or the rest of his troops (see 1 Samuel 31:6). This emphasizes God's role in removing Saul and replacing him with David (1 Chronicles 10:14).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 66. Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house--his sons and courtiers who were there engaged in the battle. But it appears that Ish-bosheth and Mephibosheth were kept at Gibeah on account of their youth. 1Ch 10:8-14. The Philistines Triumph over Him.Read the comment
