Context of Job 19:4

2“How long will you torment my soul, And break me in pieces with words? 3These ten times you have reproached me; You are not ashamed that you have wronged me. And if indeed I have erred, My error remains with me. 5If indeed you exalt yourselves against me, And plead my disgrace against me, 6Know then that God has wronged me, And has surrounded me with His net.

• Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 4And be it indeed that I have erred - Suppose indeed that I have been mistaken in any thing, that in the simplicity of my heart I have gone astray, and that this matter remains with myself, (for most certainly there is no public stain on my life), you must grant that this error, whatsoever it is, has hurt no person except myself. Why then do ye treat me as a person whose life has been a general blot, and whose example must be a public curse?Read the comment
