Context of Jeremiah 10:7
5Like a scarecrow in a cucumber field, their idols cannot speak; they must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them; they can do no harm nor can they do any good.” 6No one is like you, Lord; you are great, and your name is mighty in power. Who should not fear you, King of the nations? This is your due. Among all the wise leaders of the nations and in all their kingdoms, there is no one like you. 8They are all senseless and foolish; they are taught by worthless wooden idols. 9Hammered silver is brought from Tarshish and gold from Uphaz. What the craftsman and goldsmith have made is then dressed in blue and purple— all made by skilled workers.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 7Who would not fear thee - Who would not worship thee as the Author and Giver of all good? The fear of God is often taken for the whole of true religion. Among all the wise men of the nation - Not even the wisest and most cultivated of the nations have ever found out any one equal to thee; but so exalted and holy art thou, that in all their wisdom and research they have never been able to find out the true God.Read the comment

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 7The fear of the Lord is not about being scared, but about deep respect and following his guidance (Job 28:28; Psalm 34:11–14; Proverbs 1:7). This leads to happiness (Proverbs 10:23). King of nations: God is not just the Lord of one small nation; he rules the whole world. Jeremiah noted that no human-made god could claim that title, and even wise people do not deserve such respect.Read the comment
