Context of Ezekiel 27:33
31They will shave their heads because of you and will put on sackcloth. They will weep over you with anguish of soul and with bitter mourning. 32As they wail and mourn over you, they will take up a lament concerning you: “Who was ever silenced like Tyre, surrounded by the sea?” When your merchandise went out on the seas, you satisfied many nations; with your great wealth and your wares you enriched the kings of the earth. 34Now you are shattered by the sea in the depths of the waters; your wares and all your company have gone down with you. 35All who live in the coastlands are appalled at you; their kings shudder with horror and their faces are distorted with fear.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 26-36Verses 26-36 The most mighty and magnificent kingdoms and states, sooner or later, come down. Those who make creatures their confidence, and rest their hopes upon them, will fall with them: happy are those who have the God of Jacob for their Help, and whose hope is in the Lord their God, who lives for ever. Those who engage in trade should learn to conduct their business according to God's word. Those who possess wealth should remember they are the Lord's…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-36The second part of the prophet’s message to Tyre (see study note on Ezekiel 26:1–28:19) is a funeral song. The song compares Tyre’s past glory with its present loss. It connects with the previous chapter in several ways. Both speak directly to Tyre. Both describe Tyre as a gateway and a center of trade (see Ezekiel 26:1–2). Both end with the same message: Tyre has come to a terrible end and will exist no more (compare Ezekiel 26:21).Read the comment
