Context of 2 Chronicles 29:3
1Hezekiah was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem twenty-nine years. His mother’s name was Abijah daughter of Zechariah. 2He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father David had done. In the first month of the first year of his reign, he opened the doors of the temple of the Lord and repaired them. 4He brought in the priests and the Levites, assembled them in the square on the east side 5and said: “Listen to me, Levites! Consecrate yourselves now and consecrate the temple of the Lord, the God of your ancestors. Remove all defilement from the sanctuary.

Commentaries on 2 Chronicles 29:3
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 3By “the first month” is meant (compare 2 Chronicles 30:2-3) the month of Nisan, the first of the Jewish sacred year, not necessarily the first month of Hezekiah‘s reign.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 3-4Hezekiah's first act as king was to repair the temple doors (2 Chronicles 29:3). The verb used (yekhazzeqem, “he made them strong”) is a pun on King Hezekiah's name (yekhizqiyyahu, “Yah makes strong”). This action set the stage for the king’s speech to the priests and Levites (2 Chronicles 29:5–11).Read the comment
