Context of 2 Chronicles 29:3
1Hezekiah was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Abijah daughter of Zechariah. 2He did what was right in the Lord’s sight just as his ancestor David had done. In the first year of his reign, in the first month, he opened the doors of the Lord’s temple and repaired them. 4Then he brought in the priests and Levites and gathered them in the eastern public square. 5He said to them, “Hear me, Levites. Consecrate yourselves now and consecrate the temple of the Lord, the God of your ancestors. Remove everything impure from the holy place.

Commentaries on 2 Chronicles 29:3
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 3By “the first month” is meant (compare 2 Chronicles 30:2-3) the month of Nisan, the first of the Jewish sacred year, not necessarily the first month of Hezekiah‘s reign.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 3-4Hezekiah's first act as king was to repair the temple doors (2 Chronicles 29:3). The verb used (yekhazzeqem, “he made them strong”) is a pun on King Hezekiah's name (yekhizqiyyahu, “Yah makes strong”). This action set the stage for the king’s speech to the priests and Levites (2 Chronicles 29:5–11).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 33. in the first year of his reign, in the first month--not the first month after his accession to the throne, but in Nisan, the first month of the sacred year, the season appointed for the celebration of the passover. he opened the doors of the house of the Lord--which had been closed up by his father (2Ch 28:24). and repaired them--or embellished them (compare 2Ki 18:16).Read the comment
