1O God, please be willing to rescue me! O Lord, hurry and help me! May those who are trying to take my life be embarrassed and ashamed! May those who want to harm me be turned back and ashamed! 3May those who say, “Aha! Aha!” be driven back and disgraced! 4May all those who seek you be happy and rejoice in you! • Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 2Let them be turned backward - They are coming in a body against me. Lord, stop their progress!Read the comment
• Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 2Let them be ashamed and confounded that seek after my soul - The only change here from Psalm 40:14, is the omission of the word “together” which occurs there, and the omission of the words “to destroy it.” Let them be turned backward, and put to confusion, that desire my hurt - This corresponds in the Hebrew entirely with Psalm 40:14.Read the comment
• Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-5This psalm is almost exactly the same as Psalm 40:13–17. It has an urgent tone (Psalm 70:1, 5) that matches the nearby psalms (compare 69:17; 71:12).Read the comment
