Context of Mark 14:65
63Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “Why do we still need witnesses? 64You have heard the blasphemy! What is your verdict?” They all condemned him as deserving death. Then some began to spit on him, and to blindfold him, and to strike him with their fists, saying, “Prophesy!” The guards also took him and beat him. 66Now while Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the high priest’s slave girls came by. 67When she saw Peter warming himself, she looked directly at him and said, “You also were with that Nazarene, Jesus.”

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 53-65Verses 53-65 We have here Christ's condemnation before the great council of the Jews. Peter followed; but the high priest's fire-side was no proper place, nor his servants proper company, for Peter: it was an entrance into temptation. Great diligence was used to procure false witnesses against Jesus, yet their testimony was not equal to the charge of a capital crime, by the utmost stretch of their law. He was asked, Art thou the Son of the Blessed? that…Read the comment
