Context of Judges 7:10
8The men who were chosen took supplies and their trumpets. Gideon sent all the men of Israel back to their homes; he kept only three hundred men. Now the Midianites were camped down below in the valley. 9That night the Lord said to Gideon, “Get up! Attack the camp, for I am handing it over to you. But if you are afraid to attack, go down to the camp with Purah your servant 11and listen to what they are saying. Then you will be brave and attack the camp.” So he went down with Purah his servant to where the sentries were guarding the camp. 12Now the Midianites, Amalekites, and the people from the east covered the valley like a swarm of locusts. Their camels could not be counted; they were as innumerable as the sand on the seashore.

Wherever we are, we may speak to God, and worship him. God must have the praise of that which encourages…Read the comment

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 9-159-10. Arise, get thee down unto the host ... But if thou fear to go down, go thou with Phurah thy servant--In ancient times it was reckoned no degradation for persons of the highest rank and character to act as spies on an enemy's camp; and so Gideon did on this occasion. But the secret errand was directed by God, who intended that he should hear something which might animate his own valor and that of his troops.Read the comment
