Context of Job 15:29
27Because he covered his face with fat, and made his hips bulge with fat, 28he lived in ruined towns and in houses where no one lives, where they are ready to crumble into heaps. He will not grow rich, and his wealth will not endure, nor will his possessions spread over the land. 30He will not escape the darkness; a flame will wither his shoots and he will depart by the breath of God’s mouth. 31Let him not trust in what is worthless, deceiving himself; for worthlessness will be his reward.

Commentaries on Job 15:29
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 29He shall not be rich - The whole of what follows, to the end of the chapter, seems to be directed against Job himself, whom Eliphaz indirectly accuses of having been a tyrant and oppressor. The threatened evils are, He shall not be rich, though he labors greatly to acquire riches. His substance shall not continue - God will blast it, and deprive him of power to preserve it. 3. Neither shall he prolong the perfection thereof - all his works shall perish…Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 17-35Verses 17-35 Eliphaz maintains that the wicked are certainly miserable: whence he would infer, that the miserable are certainly wicked, and therefore Job was so. But because many of God's people have prospered in this world, it does not therefore follow that those who are crossed and made poor, as Job, are not God's people. Eliphaz shows also that wicked people, particularly oppressors, are subject to continual terror, live very uncomfortably, and perish…Read the comment
