Context of Job 15:29
27“His face is bloated with fat, and he is fat around the waist. 28He lives in ruined cities where no one dwells, in houses that are doomed to be piles of rubble. He won’t get rich, and his wealth won’t last. His possessions won’t spread out over the land. 30“He won’t escape the darkness. A flame will shrivel his branches. He will be blown away by his own breath. 31He shouldn’t trust in worthless things and deceive himself because he will get worthless things in return.

Commentaries on Job 15:29
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 29He shall not be rich - The whole of what follows, to the end of the chapter, seems to be directed against Job himself, whom Eliphaz indirectly accuses of having been a tyrant and oppressor. The threatened evils are, He shall not be rich, though he labors greatly to acquire riches. His substance shall not continue - God will blast it, and deprive him of power to preserve it. 3. Neither shall he prolong the perfection thereof - all his works shall perish…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 29He shall not be rich - That is, he shall not continue rich; or he shall not again become rich. He shall be permanently poor. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 17-35Verses 17-35 Eliphaz maintains that the wicked are certainly miserable: whence he would infer, that the miserable are certainly wicked, and therefore Job was so. But because many of God's people have prospered in this world, it does not therefore follow that those who are crossed and made poor, as Job, are not God's people. Eliphaz shows also that wicked people, particularly oppressors, are subject to continual terror, live very uncomfortably, and perish…Read the comment
