Context of Isaiah 48:12
10Look, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have purified you in the furnace of misery. 11For my sake alone I will act, for how can I allow my name to be defiled? I will not share my glory with anyone else! Listen to me, O Jacob, Israel, whom I summoned! I am the one; I am present at the very beginning and at the very end. 13Yes, my hand founded the earth; my right hand spread out the sky. I summon them; they stand together. 14All of you, gather together and listen! Who among them announced these things? The Lord’s ally will carry out his desire against Babylon; he will exert his power against the Babylonians.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 12Hearken unto me - This is a solemn call on the Jews in Babylon to attend to what he was now about to say. It is the commencement of a new part of the argument, containing the assurance that he would deliver them, and utterly destroy the Chaldeans. He begins, therefore, by asserting that he is the only true God, and that he is able to accomplish all his purposes. My called - The people whom I have chosen, or called. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 9-15Verses 9-15 We have nothing ourselves to plead with God, why he should have mercy upon us. It is for his praise, to the honour of his mercy, to spare. His bringing men into trouble was to do them good. It was to refine them, but not as silver; not so thoroughly as men refine silver. If God should take that course, they are all dross, and, as such, might justly be put away. He takes them as refined in part only. Many have been brought home to God as chosen…Read the comment
