Context of Ezekiel 24:8
6“‘Therefore this is what the sovereign Lord says: Woe to the city of bloodshed, the pot whose rot is in it, whose rot has not been removed from it! Empty it piece by piece. No lot has fallen on it. 7For her blood was in it; she poured it on an exposed rock; she did not pour it on the ground to cover it up with dust. To arouse anger, to take vengeance, I have placed her blood on an exposed rock so that it cannot be covered up. 9“‘Therefore this is what the sovereign Lord says: Woe to the city of bloodshed! I will also make the pile high. 10Pile up the bones, kindle the fire; cook the meat well, mix in the spices, let the bones be charred.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 6-8The cooking pot was too dirty to clean. Jerusalem was full of blood that she had shed and left uncovered. The Old Testament required that people cover the blood of animals killed for meat with earth (Leviticus 17:13). By leaving the blood of innocent victims uncovered, Jerusalem was doubly guilty. Her own blood would rightly be splashed on the rocks (compare Psalm 137:8–9).Read the comment

The blood of Abel, though the ground received it, still cries to heaven for vengeance (Ge 4:10, 11); much more blood shamelessly exposed on the bare rock. set her blood--She shall be paid back in kind…Read the comment
