Context of Isaiah 57:10
8You’ve set up your idols beside doors and doorposts. You’ve uncovered yourself to the idols. You’ve distanced yourself from me. You’ve made your bed with them. You’ve made a deal with those you have pleasure with in bed. You’ve seen them naked. 9You’ve journeyed to the king with perfumed oils and put on plenty of perfume. You’ve sent your ambassadors far away and sent them down to Sheol. You’ve tired yourself out with many journeys. You didn’t think that it was hopeless. You’ve found renewed strength, so you didn’t faint. 11Whom did you dread and fear so much that you lied to me? You haven’t remembered me or cared about me. I’ve been silent for a long time. Is that why you don’t fear me? 12I’ll tell you about your righteous ways and what you have done, but they won’t help you.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 10Yet saidst thou not, There is no hope "Thou hast said, There is hope" - In one of the MSS. at Koningsberg, collated by Lilienthal, the words אמרת לא lo amarta, are left in the text unpointed, as suspected; and in the margin the corrector has written ותאמרי vattomari . Now if we compare Jeremiah 2:25; and Jeremiah 18:12, we shall find that the subject is in both places quite the same with this of Isaiah; and the sentiment expressed, that of a desperate…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 10Thou art wearied in the greatness of thy way - That is, in the length of thy journeys in order to procure foreign aid. Thou hast traveled to distant nations for this purpose, and in doing it, hast become weary without securing the object in view. Yet saidst thou not, There is no hope - Thou didst not say it is to be despaired of (נואשׁ nô'âsh ), or it is vain. Though repulsed in one place, you applied to another; though weary, you did not give it up…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 3-12Verses 3-12 The Lord here calls apostates and hypocrites to appear before him. When reproved for their sins, and threatened with judgments, they ridiculed the word of God. The Jews were guilty of idolatry before the captivity; but not after that affliction. Their zeal in the worship of false gods, may shame our indifference in the worship of the true God. The service of sin is disgraceful slavery; those who thus debase themselves to hell, will justly have…Read the comment
