Context of Ezekiel 47:22
20On the west side the Mediterranean Sea is the border up to a point opposite Hamath Pass. This is the west side. 21Divide this land among yourselves for each of the tribes of Israel. Divide it by drawing lots. This land will be for you. It will also be for the foreign residents who live among you and have given birth to children while they lived with you. Think of them as Israelites. They will draw lots with you for their inheritance among the tribes of Israel. 23Foreign residents will receive their share of the inheritance with the people of the tribe among whom they are living, declares the Almighty Lord.

Commentaries on Ezekiel 47:22
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 22And to the strangers that sojourn - In former divisions of the land, no place was given to strangers; but in this division, (which seems to have no other reference than to the Gospel, for literally such a division never took place), the strangers are to have an inheritance; intimating the calling of the Gentiles into the Church of Christ, to an inheritance that is incorruptible, undefiled, and that fadeth not away. Glory be to God for his unspeakable…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 22And to the strangers - Here is quite a new feature in the distribution of the land. Not only the Israelites by descent, but those who join themselves to Israel by allegiance to the true God, shall have a right of inheritance. Here are opened out the blessings which were to accrue to the Gentiles through the seed of Abraham. Compare Romans 9:24, following. The difference which existed under the old covenant between Jew and Gentile is now at last done away…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 21-23The land within these borders was to be divided among the tribes of Israel. In the past, before the exile, the nation was divided into two kingdoms. In the future, there would be one united kingdom. The twelve tribes would live together as one people. This new arrangement would also include resident foreigners. If these foreigners had joined Israel as converts (people who had turned to worship the Lord), they were to receive a share of the land. They…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 2222. to the strangers--It is altogether unprecedented under the old covenant, that "strangers" should have "inheritance" among the tribes. There would not be room locally within Canaan for more than the tribes. The literal sense must therefore be modified, as expressing that Gentiles are not to be excluded from settling among the covenant-people, and that spiritually their privileges are not to be less than those of Israel (Ro 10:12; Ga 3:28; Ep 3:6; Col…Read the comment
