Context of Psalms 88:8
6You have put me in the deep hole of death, far down in a very dark place. 7Your anger is very heavy on me. It is like the waves of the sea that knock me down. You have caused my best friends to keep away from me. They do not even want to look at me. A trap has caught me and I cannot escape. 9My eyes have become weak because I am so sad. Lord, every day I call to you for help. I lift my hands up to you as I pray. 10Your great miracles do not help dead people! Dead people cannot get up and praise you! Selah.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 8Thou hast made me an abonmination - This verse has been supposed to express the state of a leper, who, because of the infectious nature of his disease, is separated from his family - is abominable to all, and at last shut up in a separate house, whence he does not come out to mingle with society.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 8Thou hast put away mine acquaintance far from me - The same ground of complaint, or expression of the depth of affliction, occurs elsewhere, Psalm 31:11; Psalm 38:11; Psalm 69:8. See also Job 19:13-17. Thou hast made me an abomination unto them - As something which they would avoid, or from which they would revolt and turn away - as we turn away from the body of a dead man, or from an offensive object.
