Context of Job 19:13
11He is very angry against me. He attacks me as if I am his enemy. 12His whole army is coming to attack me! They build a road so that they can reach me. They are all around me. God has caused my brothers to stay away from me. My friends do not want to meet me. 14My relatives have left me. My best friends have forgotten me. 15Visitors who stayed in my house now think that I am a stranger. Even my servants think that I am a foreigner.

The word rendered “my brethren” (אחי 'âchāy ) means means properly “my brothers” - but whether he means literally his brothers, or whether he designs it to be taken in a figuratie sense as denoting his intimate friends, or those of the…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 8-22Verses 8-22 How doleful are Job's complaints! What is the fire of hell but the wrath of God! Seared consciences will feel it hereafter, but do not fear it now: enlightened consciences fear it now, but shall not feel it hereafter. It is a very common mistake to think that those whom God afflicts he treats as his enemies. Every creature is that to us which God makes it to be; yet this does not excuse Job's relations and friends. How uncertain is the…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1313. brethren--nearest kinsmen, as distinguished from "acquaintance." So "kinsfolk" and "familiar friends" (Job 19:14) correspond in parallelism. Job again unconsciously uses language prefiguring the desertion of Jesus Christ (Job 16:10; Lu 23:49; Psa 38:11).Read the comment
