Context of Psalms 65:9
7You stop the seas from being angry, so that their waters make no noise. You do the same with the angry nations. 8People who live far away see the great things that you have done. It makes them afraid. Everywhere on earth, east and west, people sing happy songs to praise you. You take care of the land. You send rain to make the earth good for plants. Your rivers are full of water. You cause the earth to give good crops so that the people have grain to eat. 10When people plough their fields, you send rain to make the earth wet. You make the ground soft with the rain, so that crops grow there. 11Every year at harvest time, you bless people with lots of good things. Everywhere that you go, there is plenty of food.

Commentaries on Psalms 65:9
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 9Thou visitest the earth - God is represented as going through the whole globe, and examining the wants of every part, and directing the clouds how and where to deposit their fertilizing showers, and the rivers where to direct their beneficial courses. The river of God - Some think the Jordan is meant; and the visiting and watering refer to rain after a long drought. But the clouds may be thus denominated, which properly are the origin of rivers. - Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 9Thou visitest the earth - God seems to come down that he may attend to the needs of the earth; survey the condition of things; arrange for the welfare of the world which he has made; and supply the needs of those whom he has created to dwell upon it. See the notes at Psalm 8:4. And waterest it - Margin, After thou hadst made it to desire rain. This difference between the translations in the text and in the margin can be accounted for by the various…Read the comment

That word which stills the stormy ocean, and speaks it into a calm, can silence our enemies. How contrary soever light and darkness are to each other, it is hard to say which is most welcome.
