Context of Psalms 59:12
10Yes God, you love me with a faithful love, and you will come to help me. God will let me see that he has won against my enemies. 11Do not kill them yet, or my people will soon forget. Use your power to send them away without homes. Then make them fall! You are our Lord who keeps us safe like a soldier's shield. They speak bad words that are evil. Let their own pride catch them in a trap, because they curse people, and they tell lies. 13Because you are angry with them, destroy them! Destroy them completely, so that they are no more. Then everybody will know that God rules in Israel, and he rules everywhere in the earth. Selah. 14Those bad people come back to the city every evening. They go from place to place, and they cry out like dogs.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 12For the sin of their mouth - This verse has puzzled all the commentators. If we take חטאת chattath for sin-offering instead of sin, we shall get a better sense. Some of Nehemiah's enemies made a profession of the Jewish religion. Tobiah and his son were allied by marriage to the Jews; for Eliashib the priest had married his grandson to the daughter of Sanballat; and this produced a connection with Tobiah, the fast friend of Sanballat. Besides this very…Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 8-17Verses 8-17 It is our wisdom and duty, in times of danger and difficulty, to wait upon God; for he is our defence, in whom we shall be safe. It is very comfortable to us, in prayer, to look to God as the God of our mercy, the Author of all good in us, and the Giver of all good to us. The wicked can never be satisfied, which is the greatest misery in a poor condition. A contented man, if he has not what he would have, yet he does not quarrel with…Read the comment
