Context of Psalms 144:10
8Their mouths speak lies. Even when they make a promise, they are deceiving people. 9I will sing to you a new song, God. I will make music to you on my harp. You help kings to win against their enemies. You also save me, your servant David, from my enemies, when they try to kill me with their dangerous swords. 11Keep me safe from the power of foreign people. They speak lies. Even when they make a promise, it is false. 12When our sons are young, may they grow quickly, like strong plants. May our daughters become tall and beautiful, like the beautiful pillars in a king's house.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 10It is he that giveth salvation unto kings - Margin, “Victory.” The Hebrew word means “salvation,” but it is used here in the sense of deliverance or rescue. Even “kings,” with all their armies, have no hope but in God. They seem to be the most powerful of men, but they are, like all other people, wholly dependent on him for deliverance from danger. David thus recognizes his own entire dependence. Though a king in the divine purpose and in fact, yet he had…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 9-15Verses 9-15 Fresh favours call for fresh returns of thanks; we must praise God for the mercies we hope for by his promise, as well as those we have received by his providence. To be saved from the hurtful sword, or from wasting sickness, without deliverance from the dominion of sin and the wrath to come, is but a small advantage. The public prosperity David desired for his people, is stated. It adds much to the comfort and happiness of parents in this…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-15This lament begins with an exclamation of love for the Lord. The community then reflects on the temporary nature of life (Psalm 144:3–4). The psalmist asks for God's help and anticipates victory (Psalm 144:5–11). A new song (Psalm 144:9–10) and a prayer for rescue (144:11) introduce the theme of the Lord’s blessings through his care and protection (Psalm 144:12–15).Read the comment
