Context of Psalms 144:11
9I will sing to you a new song, God. I will make music to you on my harp. 10You help kings to win against their enemies. You also save me, your servant David, from my enemies, when they try to kill me with their dangerous swords. Keep me safe from the power of foreign people. They speak lies. Even when they make a promise, it is false. 12When our sons are young, may they grow quickly, like strong plants. May our daughters become tall and beautiful, like the beautiful pillars in a king's house. 13May our homes have plenty of different kinds of food. May our sheep have thousands of lambs, so that there is no space in our fields.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 11Rid me, and deliver me - See the notes at Psalm 144:7-8. The language is here repeated. The prayer had been interrupted by the thought that the answer to it would lay the foundation for praise, and by an acknowledgment of entire dependence on God. The psalmist now, after repeating the prayer, suggests what would result from the answer to it, and dwells on the happy consequences which must follow; the bright scenes in his own reign, in the prosperity of…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 9-15Verses 9-15 Fresh favours call for fresh returns of thanks; we must praise God for the mercies we hope for by his promise, as well as those we have received by his providence. To be saved from the hurtful sword, or from wasting sickness, without deliverance from the dominion of sin and the wrath to come, is but a small advantage. The public prosperity David desired for his people, is stated. It adds much to the comfort and happiness of parents in this…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-15This lament begins with an exclamation of love for the Lord. The community then reflects on the temporary nature of life (Psalm 144:3–4). The psalmist asks for God's help and anticipates victory (Psalm 144:5–11). A new song (Psalm 144:9–10) and a prayer for rescue (144:11) introduce the theme of the Lord’s blessings through his care and protection (Psalm 144:12–15).Read the comment
