Context of Matthew 24:11
9Then people will take hold of you and they will give you pain. They will even kill some of you. People in every country will hate you because you are my disciples. 10At that time, many people who believe in me will stop believing. They will put some of my disciples in the power of their rulers. They will hate each other. Also at that time, many people will say that they are prophets from God. Their message is false, but many people will believe them. 12More and more people everywhere will be doing very bad things. Because of this, many people will no longer love each other in the way that they did before. 13But God will save the person who remains strong until the end.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 11False prophets - Also were to be raised up; such as Simon Magus and his followers; and the false apostles complained of by St. Paul, 2 Corinthians 11:13, who were deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. Such also were Hymeneus and Philetus, 2 Timothy 2:17, 2 Timothy 2:18.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 11And many false prophets - Many men pretending to be prophets or foretellers of future events. This refers not to the false “Messiahs” of which he had spoken Matthew 24:5, but to prophets who should appear during the siege of the city. Of them Josephus says: “The tyrannical zealots who ruled the city suborned “many false prophets” to declare that aid would be given to the people from heaven. This was done to prevent them from attempting to desert, and to…Read the comment

Christ gave them no answer to that; but they had also asked, What shall be the sign? This question he answers fully.
