Context of Mark 8:10
8The people ate, and they all had enough food. After the people had eaten, there were still lots of small pieces of food. Jesus' disciples filled seven baskets with these pieces. 9About 4,000 people were there and ate the food. Then Jesus sent the people away. Immediately, he got into the boat with his disciples. They all returned to the part of the country called Dalmanutha. 11Some Pharisees came to Jesus. They began to argue with him. They wanted to see him do something powerful. That would show them that God had really sent him. 12Jesus cried with a low, sad sound. He said, ‘People who are alive today want God to show them something powerful. But I tell you this: God will not do the powerful thing for them that they want.’

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 10-13Like the earlier miracle where Jesus fed 5,000 people (6:30–44), after feeding 4,000 people, Jesus traveled across the Sea of Galilee by boat (compare 6:45). When he arrived, the Pharisees came to argue with him. They demanded that Jesus show them a miracle as proof (compare 7:1–23). We do not know where Dalmanutha was located. Matthew 15:39 uses the name Magadan instead of Dalmanutha when describing this place.Read the comment

And straightway he entered into a ship--"into the ship," or "embarked." with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha--In Matthew (Mt 15:39) it is "the coasts of Magdala." Magdala and Dalmanutha were both on the western shore of the lake, and probably not far apart. From the former the surname "Magdalene" was probably taken, to denote the residence of Mary Magdalene. Dalmanutha may have been a village, but it cannot now be identified with…Read the comment
