Context of Joshua 16:7
5Joshua gave this land to the tribe of Ephraim, clan by clan: The border of their land went from Ataroth Addar in the east to Beth Horon. 6Then it continued west to the sea, with Micmethath on the north side of the border. East of Micmethath, the border went past Taanath Shiloh on the east and then to Janoah. From there it went to Ataroth and Naarah and past Jericho to the Jordan River. 8From Tappuah, the border continued to the west, to the stream of Kanah. From there, it continued to the sea. That is the land that Joshua gave to the families of the tribe of Ephraim. 9They also received some towns and villages that were in Manasseh's land.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 5-8Verses 5-8 From the abrupt manner in which the statements are introduced, as well as from their imperfect character, there is probability in the conjecture that some words have, in these verses, fallen out of the text. Few of the places are known for certain.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 5-8This description of Ephraim’s northern boundary with Manasseh is general and incomplete. Because Shechem belonged to Manasseh, the border between the two tribes ran south of that town.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 5-95-9. the border of their inheritance ... was Ataroth-addar--Ataroth-addar (now Atara), four miles south of Jetta [Robinson], is fixed on as a center, through which a line is drawn from Upper Beth-horon to Michmethah, showing the western limit of their actual possessions. The tract beyond that to the sea was still unconquered.Read the comment
