Context of Joel 2:27
25‘I will give you back the years that the locusts have eaten. I will give you all that the great locust and the young locust, and other locusts and their groups have eaten. All that my great army has eaten I will give you. 26You will have plenty to eat. You will be full. You will praise the name of the Lord your God. He has done great things for you. My people will never again be ashamed. Then you will know that I am in Israel. You will know that I am the Lord your God. And you will know that there is no other God. My people will never again be ashamed.’ 28After that, I will pour out my Holy Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will be prophets. Your old men will dream and your young men will see pictures in their minds. (The Lord will send these to them.) 29I will pour out my Spirit on all my servants, on men and on women in those days.

Commentaries on Joel 2:27
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 27And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel - God had foretold their rebellion His forsaking them, “the troubles” which should “find” them, and that they should say, “Are not these evils come upon us, because our God is not among us?” Deuteronomy 31:17. It had been the mockery of the Pagan in their distress, “Where is their God?” Joel 2:17. “Now, by the fulfillment of His promises and by all God‘s benefits, they should know that He was among them…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 15-27Verses 15-27 The priests and rulers are to appoint a solemn fast. The sinner's supplication is, Spare us, good Lord. God is ready to succour his people; and he waits to be gracious. They prayed that God would spare them, and he answered them. His promises are real answers to the prayers of faith; with him saying and doing are not two things. Some understand these promises figuratively, as pointing to gospel grace, and as fulfilled in the abundant comforts…Read the comment
