Context of Job 33:15
13So you should not argue against him. You should not say, “God does not answer any of my questions.” 14God does speak to people. He speaks to them in many different ways. But often people do not recognize his voice. Sometimes God speaks to people in dreams and visions. He speaks to them at night, while they sleep in bed. 16He tells them about things that will happen. He warns them about terrible things, so that they are afraid. 17He tells them to turn away from their sins. He tells them not to be proud.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 15I. In a Dream In a Dream - when deep sleep falleth upon men - Many, by such means, have had the most salutary warnings; and to decry all such, because there are many vain dreams, would be nearly as much wisdom as to deny the Bible, because there are many foolish books, the authors of which supposed they were under a Divine influence while composing them. II. In a Vision In a Vision of the night - in slumberings upon the bed - Visions or images presented…Read the comment

In a vision of the night - Notes, Job 4:13; compare the introduction to Isaiah, Section 7 (4). - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 14-18Verses 14-18 God speaks to us by conscience, by providences, and by ministers; of all these Elihu discourses. There was not then, that we know of, any Divine revelation in writing, though now it is our principal guide. When God designs men's good, by the convictions and dictates of their own consciences, he opens the heart, as Lydia's, and opens the ears, so that conviction finds or forces its way in. The end and design of these admonitions are to keep…Read the comment
