Context of Job 31:22
20Then I would give them clothes. The wool from my sheep would keep them warm. And they all thanked me. 21I have not turned against children who have no family, even when the city judges agreed with me. God should punish me if these things are not true. I would accept the punishment that I deserve. 23I was afraid of the trouble that God might bring to me. So I could not do these bad things, because God is so great and powerful. 24I have not trusted in money or in gold. I have never thought that they would make me strong.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 22Then let mine arm - The strong language which Job uses here, shows his consciousness of innocence, and his detestation of the offences to which he here refers, Job 31:16-22. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 16-23Verses 16-23 Job's conscience gave testimony concerning his just and charitable behaviour toward the poor. He is most large upon this head, because in this matter he was particularly accused. He was tender of all, and hurtful to none. Notice the principles by which Job was restrained from being uncharitable and unmerciful. He stood in awe of the Lord, as certainly against him, if he should wrong the poor. Regard to worldly interests may restrain a man…Read the comment
