Context of Job 15:18
16So he certainly will not trust people. People are wicked and cannot think true thoughts. They like to do evil things, as if they are drinking water! 17So listen to me. I will explain something to you. I will tell you what I have seen. These are things that wise men have taught me. They did not hide the truth. They learned these things from their ancestors. 19They were the people who received the land. No foreigners were there to deceive them. 20They knew this: A wicked person will have trouble all his life. Anyone who is cruel will suffer every year that he lives.

They had few or no written records, and hence, they embodied the results of their observation in brief, sententious maxims, and transmitted them from one generation to another. And have not hid it - They have freely communicated the result of their…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 17-35Verses 17-35 Eliphaz maintains that the wicked are certainly miserable: whence he would infer, that the miserable are certainly wicked, and therefore Job was so. But because many of God's people have prospered in this world, it does not therefore follow that those who are crossed and made poor, as Job, are not God's people. Eliphaz shows also that wicked people, particularly oppressors, are subject to continual terror, live very uncomfortably, and perish…Read the comment
