Context of Hosea 2:11
9So now I will take back the grain and the new wine that I gave her at harvest time. I will take away the wool and the linen. She will have no clothes to cover her bare body. 10I will remove her clothes for all her lovers to see her as she really is. Nobody will be able to rescue her from my power. I will stop the festivals that she enjoys each year. I will stop her feasts at the times of a new moon and on Sabbath days. I will stop all her parties. 12I will destroy her vines and her fig trees. She said that those were the things that her lovers paid to her. But I will make her gardens become like a forest. Only wild animals will eat the fruit from those trees. 13I will punish her because she burned incense to the idols of Baal. I will punish her because she made herself beautiful with jewels when she went to sleep with her lovers. I will punish her because she did those things but she forgot about me. That is what the Lord says.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 6-13Verses 6-13 God threatens what he would do with this treacherous, idolatrous people. They did not turn, therefore all this came upon them; and it is written for admonition to us. If lesser difficulties be got over, God will raise greater. The most resolute in sinful pursuits, are commonly most crossed in them. The way of God and duty is often hedged about with thorns, but we have reason to think it is a sinful way that is hedged up with thorns. Crosses…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 11From the context (Hosea 2:13, 16–17), and similar passages in Isaiah 1:12–17 and Amos 5:21–24, it is clear that the Israelites had corrupted their festivals, new moon celebrations, and Sabbath days. They mixed worship of the Lord with worship of the Canaanite fertility god, Baal. God rejects this syncretism (mixing of different faiths) and declared he would remove these unholy days from Israel’s calendar.Read the comment
