Context of Hosea 9:1
People of Israel, do not shout with joy, as the people of other nations do at their festivals. You have not been faithful to me, your God. Like a prostitute, you sell yourselves to foreign gods that you worship on the threshing floors. 2But the threshing floors will not provide enough grain to feed the people. The winepresses will not give them enough new wine. 3The Israelites will not remain in the Lord's land. They will have to return to Egypt. In Assyria, they will have to eat food that is unclean.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 1Rejoice not - Do not imitate the heathens, nor serve their idols. Do not prostitute thy soul and body in practicing their impurities. Hitherto thou hast acted as a common harlot, who goes even to the common threshing places; connects herself with the meanest, in order to get a hire even of the grain there threshed out.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 1Rejoice not, O Israel, for joy, as other people - Literally, “rejoice not to exultation,” so as to bound and leap for joy (as in Job 3:22).
