Context of Ezekiel 39:20
18You will eat the meat of great men and you will drink the blood of kings. You will eat them like the fat sheep, cows and animals from Bashan that you eat. 19At this sacrifice, you will eat so much fat that you cannot eat any more. You will drink so much blood that you become drunk. I will give you horses and their riders to eat. I will give you great men and many kinds of soldiers to eat,” says the Lord God. 21I will show my glory to all the nations. They will see that I can punish people. And they will know that I decide how and when to punish them. 22From that time and for all the time after that, Israel's people will know that I am the Lord their God.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 17-29Verses 17-29 The purposes of the past dispensation shall be made clear to God‘s people themselves and to the pagan. His judgments were the consequence of their sins; and these sins once abandoned, the favor of their God will return in yet more abundance. Ezekiel 39:29 Compare Acts 2:17. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 11-22Verses 11-22 How numerous the enemies which God destroyed for the defence of his people Israel! Times of great deliverances should be times of reformation. Every one should help the utmost he can, toward cleansing the land from reproach. Sin is an enemy every man should strive against. Those engaged in public work, especially of cleansing and reforming a land, ought to be men who will go through with what they undertake, who will be always employed. When…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 18-20In most sacrificial feasts, people eat animals that have been offered as sacrifices. In this feast, the situation is reversed. Animals would eat the bodies of defeated enemies, as if they were rams, lambs, goats, and bulls. This scene is the opposite of the great banquet described in Isaiah 25:6. In that future feast, God’s people are invited to celebrate. Here, God’s enemies become the meal instead of the guests.Read the comment
