Context of Psalms 76:5
3There he destroyed all the weapons of our enemy, their arrows, their shields, and their swords. He destroyed everything that they use to fight wars. Selah. 4God, you are the one who shines with glory! You are greater than the greatest mountains. You won against brave soldiers, so that we robbed them of everything. Now they are sleeping, and they will never wake up! They are completely helpless. 6God of Jacob, when your enemies heard your battle cry, both the horses and their riders fell down dead. 7Yes, everyone is afraid of you, our God! When you are angry, nobody can stand against you.

Commentaries on Psalms 76:5
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 5The stout-hearted are spoiled - The boasting blasphemers, such as Rab-shakeh, and his master Sennacherib, the king of Assyria. They have slept their sleep - They were asleep in their tent when the destroying angel, the suffocating wind, destroyed the whole; they over whom it passed never more awoke. None of the men of might - Is not this a strong irony? Where are your mighty men? their boasted armor, etc.?Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 5The stout-hearted are spoiled - The valiant men, the men who came so confidently to the invasion. The word “spoiled” here, as elsewhere in the Scriptures, means “plundered,” not (as the word is now used) “corrupted.” See the notes at Colossians 2:8. They have slept their sleep - They are dead; they have slept their last sleep. Death, in the Scriptures, as in all other writings, is often compared with sleep. And none of the men of might - The men who came…Read the comment
