Context of Ezekiel 16:62
60But I will remember the covenant that I made with you when you were still young. I will make that covenant strong and it will continue for ever. 61Then you will remember the wicked things that you have done and you will be ashamed. You will welcome again your sisters, Sodom and Samaria. I will make them like daughters for you. But they will not share in the same covenant that I make with you. I will cause the covenant that I make with you to be strong. Then you will know that I am the Lord. 63I will forgive you for your sins so that you are no longer guilty. Then you will remember your sins. You will be too ashamed to say anything. That is what the Almighty Lord says.” ’

Commentaries on Ezekiel 16:62
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 59-63Verses 59-63 After a full warning of judgments, mercy is remembered, mercy is reserved. These closing verses are a precious promise, in part fulfilled at the return of the penitent and reformed Jews out of Babylon, but to have fuller accomplishment in gospel times. The Divine mercy should be powerful to melt our hearts into godly sorrow for sin. Nor will God ever leave the sinner to perish, who is humbled for his sins, and comes to trust in His mercy and…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 59-63Jerusalem's sins were serious and required judgment. But judgment was not God's final word on Jerusalem. She had broken God's covenant in many ways. His plans for his people could not be stopped, even by their sin. His covenant commitment lasts forever (Psalm 136). In the end, God would forgive…Read the comment
