Context of Ezekiel 15:8
6So this is what the Almighty Lord says: Among the trees of the forest, I have provided the wood of vines to burn on a fire. In the same way, I will take the people of Jerusalem to punish them. 7I will become their enemy. They may have escaped from the fire once, but soon the fire will destroy them. When I punish them like that, then you will know that I am the Lord. They have not served me faithfully. So I will destroy their land. That is what the Almighty Lord says.’

Commentaries on Ezekiel 15:8
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 8They have committed a trespass - They have prevaricated; they are the worst of sinners, and shall have the heaviest of punishments. Can men suppose that it is possible to hide even their dark hearts from God?Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 8unfaithfully: See Ezekiel 6:9; 16:17; Hosea 2. Jerusalem had turned away from the Lord and followed idols instead of serving the true God. This was spiritual unfaithfulness. The prophets often describe this sin as breaking faith in a marriage relationship. By worshiping idols, the people broke the covenant (the binding promises between God and his people). Because they broke this covenant, judgment would follow. As a result, the land would become desolate…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 88. trespass--rather, "they have perversely fallen into perverse rebellion." The Jews were not merely sinners as the other nations, but revolters and apostates. It is one thing to neglect what we know not, but quite another thing to despise what we profess to worship [Jerome], as the Jews did towards God and the law.Read the comment
