Context of 2 Timothy 4:19
17But the Lord was there to help me. He made me strong so that I could tell his message clearly. Gentile people from many countries could hear what I said. So the Lord saved me from the danger of death. 18The Lord will continue to save me from every bad thing. And he will bring me safely to heaven, where he rules. He is great and we should praise him for ever! Amen! This is true! Say ‘hello’ for me to Priscilla and Aquila, and to the family of Onesiphorus. 20Erastus remained at Corinth city. I left Trophimus at Miletus city because he was ill. 21Please try to come before the winter. Eubulus, Pudens, Linus and Claudia say ‘hello’ to you. All the other believers here also say ‘hello’.

Commentaries on 2 Timothy 4:19
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 19Salute Prisca and Aquila - Several MSS., versions, and fathers have Priscilla instead of Prisca: they are probably the same as those mentioned Acts 18:18, Acts 18:26. The household of Onesiphorus - See 2 Timothy 1:16. Onesiphorus was probably at this time dead: his family still remained at Ephesus.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 19Salute Prisca and Aquila - Prisca, or Priscilla, was the wife of Aquila, though her name is sometimes mentioned first. In regard to their history, see the notes at Romans 16:3. They were at Rome when Paul wrote his Epistle to the Romans, but afterward went into Asia Minor, which was the native place of Aquila Acts 18:2, and where they probably died. And the household of Onesiphorus; - see the notes on 2 Timothy 1:16.Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 19-22Verses 19-22 We need no more to make us happy, than to have the Lord Jesus Christ with our spirits; for in him all spiritual blessings are summed up. It is the best prayer we can offer for our friends, that the Lord Jesus Christ may be with their spirits, to sanctify and save them, and at last to receive them to himself. Many who believed as Paul, are now before the throne, giving glory to their Lord: may we be followers of them.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 19Prisca and Aquila were probably in Ephesus at this time (Acts 18:26; 1 Corinthians 16:19). They also lived in Rome, where Paul currently was (Acts 18:2; Romans 16:3). This suggests that Timothy might still be in Ephesus (see 1 Timothy 1:3). Paul is grateful when mentioning Onesiphorus in 2 Timothy 1:16 for helping him while he was in prison.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1919. Prisca and Aquila--(Ac 18:2, 3; Ro 16:3, 4; 1Co 16:19, written from Ephesus, where therefore Aquila and Priscilla must then have been). household of Onesiphorus--If he were dead at the time, the "household" would not have been called "the household of Onesiphorus." He was probably absent (see on 2Ti 1:16).Read the comment
