Context of Psalms 68:31
29Because of thy temple at Jerusalem shall kings bring presents unto thee. 30Rebuke the beast of the reeds, the assembly of the strong, with the calves of the peoples: [every one] submitteth himself with pieces of silver. Scatter the peoples that delight in war. Great ones shall come out of Egypt; Ethiopia shall quickly stretch out her hands unto God. 32Ye kingdoms of the earth, sing unto God; sing psalms of the Lord, (Selah,) 33Of him that rideth upon the heavens, the heavens which are of old: lo, he uttereth his voice, a mighty voice.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 31Aethiopta shall soon stretch out her hands unto God - This verse had its literal fulfillment under Solomon, when Egypt formed an alliance with that king by his marriage with Pharaoh's daughter; and when the queen of Sheba came to Jerusalem to hear the wisdom of Solomon. But as this may be a prophetic declaration of the spread of Christianity, it was literally fulfilled after the resurrection of our Lord. There were Egyptians at Jerusalem on the day of…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 31Princes shall come out of Egypt - That is, Shall come and acknowledge the true God. Egypt is referred to here as one of the most prominent of the foreign nations then known; and the idea is, that the distinguished men of foreign nations - the rulers and princes of the world - would come and submit themselves to God, and be united to his people. The word rendered “princes” here - חשׁמנים chashmaniym - occurs nowhere else in the Scriptures. It means…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 29-31Verses 29-31 A powerful invitation is given to those that are without, to join the church. Some shall submit from fear; overcome by their consciences, and the checks of Providence, they are brought to make peace with the church. Others will submit willingly, ver. #(29-31). There is that beauty and benefit in the service of God, and in the gospel of Christ which went forth from Jerusalem, which is enough to invite sinners out of all nations.Read the comment
