Context of John 14:15
13And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, this will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it. If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16And I will beg the Father, and he will give you another Comforter, that he may be with you for ever, 17the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see him nor know him; but ye know him, for he abides with you, and shall be in you.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 15If ye love me, keep my commandments - Do not be afflicted at the thought of my being separated from you: the most solid proof ye can give of your attachment to and affection for me is to keep my commandments. This I shall receive as a greater proof of your affection than your tears.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 15If ye love me - Do not show your love by grief at my departure merely; or by profession, but by obedience. Keep my commandments - This is the only proper evidence of love to Jesus, for mere profession is no proof of love; but that love for him which leads us to do all his will, to love each other, to deny ourselves, to take up our cross, and to follow him through evil report and through good report, is true attachment. The evidence which we have that a…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 12-17Verses 12-17 Whatever we ask in Christ's name, that shall be for our good, and suitable to our state, he shall give it to us. To ask in Christ's name, is to plead his merit and intercession, and to depend upon that plea. The gift of the Spirit is a fruit of Christ's mediation, bought by his merit, and received by his intercession. The word used here, signifies an advocate, counsellor, monitor, and comforter. He would abide with the disciples to the end of…Read the comment
