Context of Exodus 15:13
11Who is like unto thee, Jehovah, among the gods? Who is like unto thee, glorifying thyself in holiness, Fearful [in] praises, doing wonders? 12Thou stretchedst out thy right hand, the earth swallowed them. Thou by thy mercy hast led forth the people that thou hast redeemed; Thou hast guided them by thy strength unto the abode of thy holiness. 14The peoples heard it, they were afraid: A thrill seized the inhabitants of Philistia. 15Then the princes of Edom were amazed; The mighty men of Moab, trembling hath seized them; All the inhabitants of Canaan melted away.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 13Thou hast guided them in thy strength unto thy holy habitation - As this ode was dictated by the Spirit of God, It is most natural to understand this and the following verses, to the end of the 18th, as containing a prediction of what God would do for this people which he had so miraculously redeemed. On this mode of interpretation it would be better to read several of the verbs in the future tense.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 1-18Verses 1-18 With the deliverance of Israel is associated the development of the national poetry, which finds its first and perfect expression in this magnificent hymn. It was sung by Moses and the people, an expression which evidently points to him as the author. That it was written at the time is an assertion expressly made in the text, and it is supported by the strongest internal evidence. In every age this song gave the tone to the poetry of Israel…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 13Because of God's constant love and power, we can trust that he will keep his promises. Loving devotion is a translation of the Hebrew word khesed, which refers to the undeserved kindness and loyalty from a superior to an inferior. This is the most common way to describe God's character in the Old Testament (see Psalm 136). If God had this character but lacked the power to fulfill his good intentions for his people, his character would not benefit us. The…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-271. Then sang Moses and the children of Israel--The scene of this thanksgiving song is supposed to have been at the landing place on the eastern shore of the Red Sea, at Ayoun Musa, "the fountains of Moses." They are situated somewhat farther northward along the shore than the opposite point from which the Israelites set out. But the line of the people would be extended during the passage, and one extremity of it would reach as far north as these…Read the comment
