Context of Acts 4:28
26The kings of the earth were there, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord and against his Christ. 27For in truth against thy holy servant Jesus, whom thou hadst anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with [the] nations, and peoples of Israel, have been gathered together in this city to do whatever thy hand and thy counsel had determined before should come to pass. 29And now, Lord, look upon their threatenings, and give to thy bondmen with all boldness to speak thy word, 30in that thou stretchest out thy hand to heal, and that signs and wonders take place through the name of thy holy servant Jesus.

They are briefly these: (1)That the Jewish rulers were opposed to the Messiah, and slew him. (2)that the very people to whom he came, and for whose benefit he labored, joined in the opposition, so that it became the act of a united people. (3)that the Romans, who were there as a sort of representation of all…Read the comment

It encourages God's servants, both in doing work, and suffering work, that they serve the God who made all things, and therefore has the disposal of all events; and the Scriptures must be fulfilled. Jesus was anointed to be a Saviour, therefore it was determined he should be a sacrifice, to make atonement for sin. But sin is not the less evil for God's bringing good out…Read the comment
