Context of Mark 8:9

7They also had a few small fish, and after he had blessed them, he said these were to be served as well. 8They ate and were satisfied. Then they collected seven large baskets of leftover pieces. About four thousand were there. He dismissed them. 10And he immediately got into the boat with his disciples and went to the district of Dalmanutha. 11The Pharisees came and began to argue with him, demanding of him a sign from heaven to test him.

• Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-10The stories about feeding the 4,000 and the 5,000 are similar. All four Gospels report the earlier feeding of the 5,000 (6:35–44; Matthew 14:13–21; Luke 9:10–17; John 6:1–15). Only Mark and Matthew also record the feeding of the 4,000 as a separate miracle (Matthew 15:32–39; Mark 8:19–21; Matthew 16:9–10). The details of the events are different.Read the comment
