Context of Genesis 4:26
24If Cain is to be avenged seven times over, then for Lamech it will be seventy-seven times! 25Adam was intimate with his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, for she said, “God has given me another offspring in place of Abel, since Cain killed him.” A son was born to Seth also, and he named him Enosh. At that time people began to call on the name of the Lord.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 26Then began men to call upon the name of the Lord - The marginal reading is, Then began men to call themselves by the name of the Lord; which words are supposed to signify that in the time of Enos the true followers of God began to distinguish themselves, and to be distinguished by others, by the appellation of sons of God; those of the other branch of Adam's family, among whom the Divine worship was not observed, being distinguished by the name, children…Read the comment

While Cain, the head of the apostacy, is made a wanderer, Seth, from whom the true church was to come, is one fixed. In Christ and his church is the only true settlement. - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 26Enosh means "humankind." In the Old Testament, this term often appears in poems emphasizing human mortality and weakness (for example, Psalm 144:3, "what is man"). Enosh was born when people started to worship the Lord by name (literally call upon the name of the LORD). In Genesis, this meant worshiping the Lord through sacrifice and prayer (similar Hebrew terms are found in Genesis 12:8; 13:4; 21:33; 26:25).Read the comment
