Context of 1 Kings 7:17
15He cast two bronze pillars, each 27 feet high and 18 feet in circumference. 16He also made two capitals of cast bronze to set on top of the pillars; 7½ feet was the height of the first capital, and 7½ feet was also the height of the second capital. The capitals on top of the pillars had gratings of latticework, wreaths made of chainwork — seven for the first capital and seven for the second. 18He made the pillars with two encircling rows of pomegranates on the one grating to cover the capital on top; he did the same for the second capital. 19And the capitals on top of the pillars in the portico were shaped like lilies, six feet high.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 17Nets - Rather “Nets chequerwise, and festoons chainwise,” - probably a fine network over the whole, and chainwork hanging in festoons outside. Seven for the one chapiter - The Septuagint reading is preferable. “A net for the one chapiter and a net for the other chapiter.” Compare 1 Kings 7:41.Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 13-47Verses 13-47 The two brazen pillars in the porch of the temple, some think, were to teach those that came to worship, to depend upon God only, for strength and establishment in all their religious exercises. "Jachin," God will fix this roving mind. It is good that the heart be established with grace. "Boaz," In him is our strength, who works in us both to will and to do. Spiritual strength and stability are found at the door of God's temple, where we must…Read the comment

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 15-2215-22. two pillars of brass of eighteen cubits high--They were made of the brass (bronze) which was taken from the king of Zobah (1Ch 18:8). In 2Ch 3:15 they are said to have been thirty-five cubits high. There, however, their joint lengths are given; whereas here the length of the pillars is given separately. Each pillar was seventeen and a half cubits long, which is stated, in round numbers, as eighteen. Their dimensions in English measure are as…Read the comment
