Context of 2 Kings 25:17
15The captain of the guards took away the firepans and sprinkling basins — whatever was gold or silver. 16As for the two pillars, the one basin, and the water carts that Solomon had made for the Lord’s temple, the weight of the bronze of all these articles was beyond measure. One pillar was twenty-seven feet tall and had a bronze capital on top of it. The capital, encircled by a grating and pomegranates of bronze, stood five feet high. The second pillar was the same, with its own grating. 18The captain of the guards also took away Seraiah the chief priest, Zephaniah the priest of the second rank, and the three doorkeepers. 19From the city he took a court official who had been appointed over the warriors; five trusted royal aides found in the city; the secretary of the commander of the army, who enlisted the people of the land for military duty; and sixty men from the common people who were found within the city.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 17Compare with this description the accounts in marginal references. The height of the capital (“three cubits”) must be corrected, in accordance with those passages, to “five cubits.”Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 8-21Verses 8-21 The city and temple were burnt, and, it is probable, the ark in it. By this, God showed how little he cares for the outward pomp of his worship, when the life and power of religion are neglected. The walls of Jerusalem were thrown down, and the people carried captive to Babylon. The vessels of the temple were carried away. When the things signified were sinned away, what should the signs stand there for? It was righteous with God to deprive…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 17The bronze capital (the decorated top part of the pillar) was 3 cubits high (about 1.4 meters or 4.5 feet). Some ancient copies read 5 cubits (about 2.3 meters or 7.5 feet). This larger number may describe the entire capital, while the Hebrew text may describe only the decorative network of bronze pomegranates (compare 1 Kings 7:17–18).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 8-188-18. on the seventh day of the month ... came Nebuzar-adan--(compare Jr 52:12). In attempting to reconcile these two passages, it must be supposed either that, though he had set out on the seventh, he did not arrive in Jerusalem till the tenth, or that he did not put his orders in execution till that day. His office as captain of the guard (Ge 37:36; 39:1) called him to execute the awards of justice on criminals; and hence, although not engaged in the…Read the comment
