Context of Jonah 2:7
5The waters compassed me about, even to the soul; The deep was round about me; The weeds were wrapped about my head. 6I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; The earth with its bars closed upon me for ever: Yet hast thou brought up my life from the pit, O Jehovah my God. When my soul fainted within me, I remembered Jehovah; And my prayer came in unto thee, into thy holy temple. 8They that regard lying vanities Forsake their own mercy. 9But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that which I have vowed. Salvation is of Jehovah.

Commentaries on Jonah 2:7
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 7When my soul fainted - When I had given up all hope of life. My prayer came in unto thee - Here prayer is personified, and is represented as a messenger going from the distressed, and entering into the temple of God, and standing before him. This is a very fine and delicate image. This clause is one of those which I suppose the prophet to have added when he penned this prayer.Read the comment
