Context of Isaiah 27:6
4Wrath is not in me: would that the briers and thorns were against me in battle! I would march upon them, I would burn them together. 5Or else let him take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me; yea, let him make peace with me. In days to come shall Jacob take root; Israel shall blossom and bud; and they shall fill the face of the world with fruit. 7Hath he smitten them as he smote those that smote them? or are they slain according to the slaughter of them that were slain by them? 8In measure, when thou sendest them away, thou dost contend with them; he hath removed them with his rough blast in the day of the east wind.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 6To take root "From the root" - For ישרש yashresh, I read, with the Syriac, משרש mishshoresh . And for ופרח יציץ yatsits uparach, פרח יציצו yatsitsu parach, joining the ו vau to the first word, and taking that into construction with the first part of the sentence, Israel shall bud forth. I suppose the dialogue to be continued in this verse, which pursues the same image of the allegory, but in the way of metaphor.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 6He shall cause them that come of Jacob to take root - This language is derived from the vine, as the shoots or cuttings of the vine take root and flourish. To take root, therefore, is an emblem denoting that the descendants of Jacob, or the people of God, would increase and prosper. Shall blossom and bud - An image also taken from the vine, or from fruit trees in general, and meaning that they should greatly flourish in the time succeeding their return…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 6-13Verses 6-13 In the days of the gospel, the latter days, the gospel church shall be more firmly fixed than the Jewish church, and shall spread further. May our souls be continually watered and kept, that we may abound in the fruits of the Spirit, in all goodness, righteousness, and truth. The Jews yet are kept a separate and a numerous people; they have not been rooted out as those who slew them. The condition of that nation, through so many ages, forms a…Read the comment

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 66. He--Jehovah. Here the song of the Lord as to His vineyard (Is 27:2-5) ends; and the prophet confirms the sentiment in the song, under the same image of a vine (compare Psa 92:13-15; Ho 14:5, 6). Israel ... fill ... world--(Ro 11:12).Read the comment
